The rise of bioprinting<\/strong> in recent years has led to improved performance in all kinds of sectors linked to the manipulation of advanced materials with biological functions. The DomoBIO<\/strong> <\/a>range of bioprinters, distributed exclusively by IT3D Group<\/strong><\/a>, has positioned itself as an effective solution in the field of bioprinting. Proof of this is the confidence placed in this technology by internationally renowned research centres such as Tecnalia<\/a>. Another of the centres that has incorporated the DomoBIO 3D Bioprinter into its practice is the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M)<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

DomoBIO BIOprinter at UC3M<\/h2>\n

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), founded in 1989, has always been an innovative and pioneering educational institution in the field of research. In addition to the research into advanced materials<\/strong> and related technologies carried out by its specialists, UC3M also tackles projects ranging from nanotechnology<\/strong> and materials science to the production and application of materials in industry. Programmes such as CONEX-Plus Fellow<\/a>, are a very important pillar in the national and international research sector.\"materiales.<\/p>\n

Thus, UC3M has recently incorporated the DomoBIO 4A<\/strong><\/a> into its materials department. Driven by the goal of improving their performance when handling advanced materials, they have decided to make the move to DomoBIO. This advanced 3D BIOprinting technology enables the manufacture of innovative materials with unique properties.<\/p>\n

The line of research in which the team at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid is involved is the study of graphene as a bactericidal application<\/strong>. Graphene is a material composed of carbon atoms with exceptional mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. In addition, it has been shown to have bactericidal properties, which makes it a material of great interest for applications in medicine and biotechnology. Motivated by this last statement, UC3M is using the DomoBIO 4A BIOprinter to tackle new challenges linked to the bactericidal possibilities of the material<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Why DomoBIO 4A?<\/h2>\n

The DomoBIO 4A is a 3D Bioprinter designed for advanced fabrication of complex structures. It uses different heads (electrospinning, FDM, melt-electrowriting, UV and syringe extrusion<\/strong>) and platforms to print materials with specific mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. In the case of UC3M, the machine is mainly being used to study the performance of graphene and its scientific applications.<\/p>\n

The printer has a 10mL electrospinning extruder (ES) and a high-voltage power supply for nanofibre fabrication<\/strong>. The heated 10mL syringe extruder allows printing materials that require high temperature, while the cooled platform maintains a constant temperature during printing of heat-sensitive materials.<\/p>\n

In short, thanks to the DomoBIO 4A, developed by DomoTek and exclusively distributed by IT3D Group, the UC3M materials department has managed to manufacture graphene materials with improved bactericidal properties. In addition, the Bioprinter makes it possible to precisely control the thickness and orientation of the graphene fibres, which directly affects the material’s bactericidal properties.<\/p>\n

UC3M researchers are also using the DomoBIO 4A to explore the potential of biomaterials in the manufacture of medical implants and diagnostic devices.<\/p>\n
